BRAAX Framing Carpenter
Job Purpose
We are looking to hire an experienced Framing Carpenter to construct the framework of the building and other structures according to construction plans. The framing carpenter’s responsibilities include using plumb bobs and levels to ensure that structures are exactly vertical or horizontal, constructing window and door frames as well as staircases and flooring, and installing temporary supports for structures as required. To be successful in this role, you should be able to interpret blueprints and have sound knowledge of building codes and safety regulations. You should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and ensure that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Key Accountabilities
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
Prepare layouts conforming to building codes, using measuring tools
Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding, and hardware
Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures on commercial and residential sites
Selecting, measuring, and marketing materials for exterior doors and windows, foundations, floors, walls, and roofs
Cutting and shaping materials and joining them with nails, screws, bolts, or glue
Developing work plans
Reading and interpreting blueprints
Work with power tools, lift heavy materials and kneel or crouch for long periods of time.
Able to make quick mental calculations
Work safely and wear special equipment to protect against injury
Ask questions when you are not sure
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
High school diploma
Carpentry trades experience - a minimum of 4 years
Valid BC driver’s license with a clean driving record. Experience operating a truck & trailer is an asset
Self-driven with the ability to multi-task
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Possess good organizational and time management skills
Reliable and consistently punctual with an eye for detail
Knowledge of workplace health & safety practices and responsibilities associated with it
Self-driven with the ability to manage and motivate others
Proactive, hands-on, roll up your sleeves, and do whatever it takes to get the job done attitude
Contributor to a positive and results-oriented team environment with the desire to learn and grow
Physical stamina to maintain a productive 8-hour workday. Ability to lift weight up to 50lbs
Proficient operating skills of all major construction tools & equipment
Provide all your own personal safety gear including waterproof outerwear and gloves
Willing to work evenings, on-call, and weekends when requested
